About

The Brown University Undergraduate Council of Students is a representative body of members which has been committed to serving Brown University’s undergraduate community since 1893.

Representatives from all four classes and a diverse area of interests work individually and collectively to propel short and long-term goals. Through frequent correspondence with University decision makers, UCS strives to actively and authentically pursue student interests. Every year, UCS aspires to develop and foster collaboration between students, staff, and faculty in order to effectively communicate, represent, and build from the diversity of interests that shape this University

Although we have elected chair positions and appointed director positions, our diverse committees are open to all. Get involved in UCS today!

Our Work

Some of our most important responsibilities include:

  • Meeting frequently with a wide range of administrative heads to voice and advocate for student concerns

  • Managing the student group system

  • Collecting data on student opinion and concerns

  • Pushing for student quality of life changes that are based on principles of equity and justice

  • Appointing students to University Committees

Our Structure

The UCS President and Vice President serve as the representative heads of the organization in all major and general matters.

The UCS Eboard, which is comprised of all elected and appointed positions within UCS, acts as the primary and sole governing body. In all Eboard matters, the voice of every member is equal.

Most Eboard positions have their own committee through which they oversee a particular aspect of UCS’ responsibilities or life on campus. They have traditionally always been open for any undergraduate to join and contribute.
