Ad Hoc Committee on CAC Nomination

This committee was created to oversee undergraduate nominations to the Campus Advisory Committee (CAC), which will provide input on the presidential search process.

Charge

UCS has been asked to nominate 4 undergraduates to the CAC. This nomination is one of particular importance, and UCS is determined to produce its nominations in a manner that is fair, legitimate, and transparent.

The Ad Hoc Committee on CAC Nomination is charged with producing the list of nominees for the CAC by September 25th. The committee’s work will include the preparation of application materials, the establishment of an application timeline, and the selection of candidates. Per precedent, the UCS President will occupy one nomination. The committee will select the remaining three from the undergraduate body. These three nominations should not include UCS officers.

The committee may choose to consider the following guidance provided by the Corporation:

  • It will be important for the members of the committee to be committed to openness and diversity of ideas, perspectives, and experiences, consistent with the Statement of University Values and Voice.

  • Members of both committees will be representing the University to each other and to candidates over the course of the search. Accordingly, it is important that members be fully in good standing and have the respect of the campus and their colleagues.

  • It will be important for members of the committees to be equally skilled at listening and communicating, as we will be simultaneously learning about candidates and informing them about Brown.

  • Members should be prepared to make the search a priority in terms of their time over the next six to eight months, including being available to participate in meetings over the January break.

  • Confidentiality of the search process will be paramount, and members should be prepared to maintain complete confidentiality throughout the search, as a condition of membership.

The committee will:

  • Create an application that assesses candidate preparedness for service, level of community involvement, and commitment to confidentiality.

  • Design a rubric by which to score applications.

  • Create an application process and timeline, which may include interviews.

  • Collaborate with the UCS Communications Committee to circulate information regarding applications.

  • Select three nominees before September 25th.

The UCS President will submit the candidates selected by the Committee to the Corporation.

The committee will be composed of UCS officers and will be chaired by Hayden Hradek, the UCS Chair of Appointments.

9/2/26 Email Clarifications

  • The chairs of the FEC and MFEC work with the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor to select undergraduate representatives from UCS’ nominees. They do not make the selections alone.

  • Precedent exists for nominating one UCS Executive Board member to the CAC. For this search, that member will be the UCS President.
